highland tree and fencing services website

New responsive website for Highland Tree & Fencing Services

We are pleased to announce a new responsive website for Highland Tree & Fencing Services by Lanetech. Highland Tree & Fencing Services is a business based in the Scottish Highlands that specialises in tree work, fencing, and stump grinding and removal.

The new website was built using WordPress Content Management System and a simple and attractive website theme sourced by Lanetech. The theme design is responsive, which is considered to be the industry standard today, and it means that the website will work well across all devices (desktop, laptop and mobile). This is especially important given the emphasis that Google now places on mobile optimisation: for a website to rank highly, it must provide a good experience for mobile users. This simple website includes: a (responsive) photo slider with text animation on the Home page; information pages for the individual services; a gallery of images with social media share buttons – Tweet (Twitter) and Like (Facebook); and a contact page with an enquiry form.

Fighting the battle against email blacklisting!

Email iconLanetech is pleased to now offer our clients requiring a more robust email solution the option to upgrade the email account provided as part of our web hosting service, to an account with more features and benefits through Rackspace UK, a highly regarded IT business, for just £3.00 + VAT per month per email account (paid annually).

The key benefits of the Rackspace account are:

  • Less spam: the spam filtering system eliminates 98% of spam
  • Less chance of your email being blocked due to blacklisting (see below)
  • Robust email virus protection
  • 100% uptime guarantee: in other words, your email account will always be accessible via the Internet.

With the standard email solution, some of our clients very occasionally experience (bounce back) messages saying that their mail was not delivered. This is because the IP address of the email server has been blacklisted, usually because of spamming from other companies (or agents) using the same server. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable on a shared server given the very high level of spam generated on a daily basis and the problem is time-consuming to resolve. However, Rackspace use a server for email only (i.e. not websites), and employ stricter policies, both of which greatly reduce the likelihood of your email not being delivered due to blacklisting.

Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss upgrading your email account.

simmons gallery blog

Simmons Gallery new blog goes live!

We are pleased to announce that a new blog for Simmons Gallery, set up by Lanetech, has gone live!

Simmons Gallery is an online business trading historical and modern medals. The business owners wanted a blog to complement their website, which was designed and developed by Lanetech last year. Lanetech sourced a smart, simple theme for blogs from WordPress and styled and configured it to match the design of the Simmons Gallery website, as the most cost-effective and secure solution. The theme design is responsive: it automatically adapts to the size of screen that the user is accessing the website on, meaning that the blog will look good and read well across desktop, tablet and mobile devices. Responsive design is becoming more and more popular because mobile Internet usage is exploding; rather than tiny text and buttons, and the need to constantly zoom in and out of content, responsive design automatically resizes content to keep it readable and navigable, improving the user experience.

We are always happy to be contacted to discuss ideas and prices for a new website or a website refresh — phone 01309 678149 or email info@lanetech.co.uk. Our team is dedicated to delivering high quality results at competitive prices!

edinbane pottery google map custom Street View panorama

Create a virtual tour using Google Street View

We thought you might be interested to learn how one of our clients, Edinbane Pottery, has created a Google Map custom Street View panorama to allow virtual visitors to ‘walk’ off the street and explore inside the Pottery. Many people are familiar with StreetView, the technology featured in Google Maps that provides panoramic views from positions along many streets in the world, and many websites incorporate a Google Map, but we don’t see many custom Street Views (or virtual tours). It’s by no means a cinch to create, you will need to create or commission your own 360 degree panorama photographs and add some code to your website. However, as you can see the overall effect is very impressive!

Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss adding a Google Map custom Street View panorama to your website.
